High School

High School (Grade 9 – 12)

High school at MSA prepares students for future success, both in postsecondary education and adult life.

Our students are encouraged and motivated to view learning as a lifelong, exciting process. MSA equips our students to meet future educational challenges, earn a living, and make an impact.

In Grade 9, our students complete the Alberta Education Junior High Curriculum. Each student who enters Grade 9 prepares a Four-Year Education Plan. Created with assistance from parents and our guidance counselor, the plan outlines the types of courses the student will take for their selected path through high school at MSA.

We proudly offer the Alberta High School Diploma program for students in Grades 10-12. Upon completion of Grade 12 courses, MSA students must take Alberta Diploma Examinations in English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics).

The rigorous Alberta Curriculum offers our students opportunities to explore subjects in depth with a strong emphasis on critical thinking. Students develop the ability to appropriately question established norms while simultaneously developing and questioning their own positions.

Governor General’s Academic Medal

Annually, each participating Canadian high school awards the bronze Governor General’s Academic Medal to the student graduating with the highest average. Created by Lord Dufferin in 1873, the bronze medal is a prestigious award for students in Canadian schools.

As an Alberta Accredited International School, MSA offers our students the opportunity to earn this esteemed recognition. We proudly present a bronze Governor General’s Academic Medal and personalized certificate on behalf of the Governor General to the student with the most outstanding scholastic achievement in each graduating class.

Class of 2025 – Ethan McAlpine

Studying Engineering at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada

“I have always strived for academic success, and I enjoy the process of learning, which are values that have been instilled in me by my parents. I am grateful for their support as well as the dedicated and caring teachers and staff at Mount Saint Agnes Academy (MSA) who helped me to achieve my goals. Their guidance made it possible for me to succeed and strive for excellence. Using this strong foundation, coupled with the Alberta curriculum, MSA has prepared me well for my next educational chapter at Smith Engineering – Queen’s University in Kingston.”

Class of 2024 – Anijahé dos Santos Martin

Studying Business Administration and Kinesiology at Western University, Ontario, Canada

“Receiving the Governor General’s Award was an incredible honour and one of the most meaningful recognitions of my academic journey. It represents years of commitment, perseverance, and the constant support I’ve received from my teachers, peers, and family. MSA played a tremendous role in preparing me for university, not only by building a strong academic foundation but also by encouraging leadership, time management, and community involvement. The school’s nurturing environment and dedicated staff helped me develop the confidence and resilience I rely on today as I pursue my studies at Western.

I’m truly grateful to have been part of such an inspiring community that continues to motivate me to strive for excellence and give back in everything I do.”

Class of 2023 – Analia Machado

Studying Education and Psychology at Trent University, Ontario, Canada

“I was overjoyed when finding out that I was the 2023 recipient of the Governor General’s award. Being recognized for this award meant so much to me and was a reminder of how much MSA has helped shape the path to my success in life. I am now in my third year in the Teachers Education Stream at Trent University, majoring in Psychology. I felt very prepared when starting university, even though beginning this new chapter was a major change in my life. Since my high school graduation, I have now received the Dean’s Honor Roll for two years in a row and still find myself applying a lot of the content I learnt at MSA to my university studies. I owe a lot of that success to the amazing teachers and education at MSA who helped me to build a strong foundation in my educational journey. MSA will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am very grateful to have received this award!”

Class of 2022 – Adriano Rymon-Lipinski

Studying Actuarial Science at University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

“Receiving the Governor General’s Award was such a meaningful moment for me. It felt amazing to see my hard work recognized, and I’m really grateful to MSA for the support that got me there. My time at MSA taught me how to push myself, stay focused, and believe in what I can achieve, which made the transition to university so much smoother.”

Ring Mass

Each year at Ring Mass, our Grade 12 students gather with their loved ones to receive their class rings. The class ring is a symbol of the students’ bonds with their fellow classmates, faculty, and generations of alumni.

As the first official ceremony of Senior Year at MSA, Ring Mass is a very special occasion that students look forward to for many years. It celebrates the students’ achievements as they approach graduation.

In keeping with our Catholic faith, the Bishop blesses the rings and asks God to guide our students. The class rings remind our students to carry the MSA school motto, “Nihil sine Deo,” throughout their lives.

While this celebration centers around the Grade 12 students, it is also a special occasion for the people who love them. The celebration brings our MSA family together as friends, family, and staff turn the rings to wish our students a successful Senior Year.
